Today is the day I have personally been waiting for. I have been wanting to post some shots, but I could not decide on how to make the game environment look. I wanted to do a Zelda-ish cell shading with hard edges, but after several attempts the detail never looked good enough to me to use. So rather than spending another weekend trying to figure it out, I decided to try something else. Since I was already set up with an isometric look anyway, I decided to do a semi realistic terrain much like that of the old RTS games but with a more zoomed view. The zoomed view does seem to take away from the overall look, but may prove an advantage once I start adding more art to the object layer. But anyway, here are some shots.
The orc and the treasure came with the adventure kit I bought along side TGB. The terrain is my own doing. When I finally got all my terrain tiles built, I decided to fire up torque and build a partial level. Once I started building I realized that I had forgotten to build a few needed tiles, so I faked it as best I could. In fact, in one of the screen shots you can see where I flipped a tile upside to accommodate for one I couldn't work around, and it seems to have done a good temporary job.
If you are wondering, the blank spaces are semi on purpose. I decided to get some screen shots now, and go back to work on terrain before finishing up. I don't expect to be done with that tonight, but who knows. I've got my system for most of the tile types worked out. I am also out of school now, so for a while, this blog might get updated semi-regularly. :-)
